1. Brakes It is very important to always make sure that the brakes are in perfect condition. Failure of this essential feature is one of the top reasons why people fall into car crashes. These wear down over time and some drivers do not have these replaced until it is too late. The failure of brakes may also be due to leaking fluid lines and malfunctioning ABS systems. When brakes are making a noise, if the pedal is sinking to the floor or pulsates and feels spongy upon application of force, then you need to have it repaired because you have a problem and this may lead to accidents.

2. Tires Tires that are worn-out and over or under inflated are a common mechanical failure. These are meant to provide traction or grip during cornering or to keep your car on the road. When tires lack adequate inflation or treads get worn-out, they lose their ability to properly hold on the road. This is even more dangerous during a rain or snow. When tires are over inflated, these are prone for explosions. When these explode, it results to an unbalanced state which may cause the car to turn over. Most states in the US require tires to have a minimum tread depth of 1.6 mm in a continuous connection around the center of the tire. One the tread reaches around 2mm, it is advised that you have it replaced to prevent accidents.

3. Steering Failed steering system is also a major cause of car accidents. The steering system of a car is composed of several components that are also susceptible to wear and tear, or worse, to sudden failure. A mechanical failure in steering linkages, tie rods, ball joints and fluid lines are very dangerous. When one loses control of this, it can eventually lead to major accidents. Thus, it is really important to have regular automotive inspections.

4. Head Lights and Tail Lights During the night when visibility is down, the percentage of car accidents become higher because drivers depend on lights to see thing around them. If head and tail lights, brake light and blinkers are broken or dim, it becomes very difficult to see. What is more dangerous is other drivers may not see you and anticipate your moves. If your blinker is out and you make a turn, a collision may happen. Car lights are advised to be inspected at least once a week. It may also be a good routine to do this while filling up the gas tank.

5. Wipers and Defrosters These are essential components of a vehicle especially during rainy or snowy conditions when driving becomes more difficult. Thus, it is important to always check that the windshield wipers are properly functioning a sudden malfunction will cause a driver to quickly lose visibility. This is very dangerous especially during heavy traffics or when driving at high speeds. In line with this, when a defroster fails, moisture may accumulate on the windshield that will eventually block the view.

No car functions perfectly when it is not cared for.
