Take a Minute to Find Out How ShopSite Can Change Your Life
I started my journey into ecommerce years back. It started with helping my sister design her online store. She was a partner in a very successful scrapbooking business in a small town in the Four Corners region. The ladies at this store literally hang out there all night and put together scrapbooks and making memories. If you are ever in Monticello, Utah on a Saturday night, you will find this place loaded with "scrappers" doing their thing. They are crazy for the products. If they loved the products so much then others all over the country should want order them from the internet, right? It sounded like a great idea to me. So my journey into ecommerce started.
When I started my first online store, I spent a lot of time searching for the perfect shopping cart software. I did my homework and research. My goal was to find the most powerful software I could afford. Back then I couldn't afford much. I saw ShopSite through their webpage ShopStie.com. It looked great with a lot of features, but I convinced myself that it was just too expensive. I spent the next two weeks on my computer and installed and tried several free shopping cart versions on my hosting account. I was using free open source eCommerce software at the time. I thought it would save me some money upfront.
I spent a lot of time getting the right images in the store and arranging it just right. We used the primary colors from the shop and incorporated it into the store. I had no experience with the Internet, ecommerce or web design. I did produce a pretty good looking store that was functional and could take credit card payments. I mastered ecommerce in just 2 weeks.
Here it was the perfect little store that had the most popular products from the brick and mortar operation. The website was easy to navigate, colorful and the product was very popular. We waited for the sales to start pouring in. In my mind I could just see the cash register ringing in its little virtual world online. We waited... And waited... and waited more. We never made a single online sale and eventually took the site down.
So what went wrong? We did everything we needed to have a great online store with lots of products. The problem was that I did not understand how to market the website and get traffic to the site. After working in the industry 10 years later I am convinced that if we would have changed a few things, it could have been turned into a multi-million dollar operation.
This was my first experience with ecommerce. Since that time I have helped thousands of online entrepreneurs succeed online. I have also seen a lot of failure. I had the perfect job to test the waters every day. I was an executive account manager for hosting resellers at a huge internet hosting company. My job was to help thousands of small business make money by selling hosting and services to their customers.
One of our most popular products we offered was ShopSite. As employees ShopSite Inc, offered us a free license to try the software. It was genius for ShopSite to do this because if the people that sell the software understand it they will sell more of it. I took up the challenge and used the software to try to put together several stores. I got pretty good at it. Eventually this lead me to leave my position and start my own company.
Within a few months I was a Certified ShopSite Designer and Developer. This means that I understood the software and helped other people create their online store with ShopSite for a fee. I am the expert. I helped some stores increase their sale to five figures a month. The key to success for the people that hired me is that they took the shortcut. They spent some money upfront to hire someone that was an expert at something they were trying to do, but didn't quite understand how to do it.
I came a long way from putting together that first store with free software. Today, I will only use tools that are effective. ShopSite is a easy to use software that is powerful enough to compete with very expensive enterprise solutions. I have seen people waste a lot of time doing the same thing I did 10 years ago. I recently decided that I am going to start writing a weekly article and newsletter dedicated to help people sell their products online.
