When travelling, there are many different ways to vacation and RVing is one of them

. But you dont have one, you say? That is okay, you can rent one. The memories you will make being together in tight quarters and having a great time will mean more than being stuck on a quiet airplane or crammed in a car like a bunch of sardines.

Taking your hotel with you makes it easier when looking for places to go. You dont have to reserve a hotel each night in a different place and you can boondock if you can find areas that allow it. Do your homework and research public lands so you are familiar with what is privately owned (although some landowners will allow people to stay on their land if you ask).

Lay out a map and go over what places you want to see. Make a list of sites or parks that are the most important, starting with the ones closest to your location and marking them out on the map. research campgrounds, the amount of nights you can stay at each one, the fees, and the hookups for each destination. Some will have campfire bans at certain times of the year, so packing accordingly for those areas will keep it efficient.

One helpful tool in planning is the America the Beautiful-The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass. This really awesome pass runs you about $80 and is good for the whole year after purchase. You are covered for up to four people over the age of 16, including the owner of the pass. Military personnel and their dependents are eligible for free passes and an unlimited senior pass is $10. Sometimes you never know when you will feel like stopping at a park that costs you, or perhaps the fees will add up to be about that much without the pass, so get it and have it on hand so you can use it the rest of the year as well.

Make out your itinerary by the day. Write out how many miles you plan to cover, the web has great mapping tools that will give you great estimates on what mileage to expect. You can then multiply that by how much your average gallon of gasoline runs and budget that way. Include the names and phone numbers of campground hosts, print off the maps to each site if you need them and label them with the day you plan to arrive there. You might even print confirmation numbers that might get emailed to you or write them down and if you reserve over the phone and keep that with the phone number information.

Once you have the specifics of the where and when, you can fill in the blanks with meals and make a grocery list from that. Drinking water should not go overlooked, just in case of any emergencies or problems that could make it impossible for you to replace your stores. Use a checklist if you feel the need for packing and count the days down until you depart for fun times and memories made on your RV vacation!
