Taking Care Of Your Pool 101

If you have a pool at your residence, you must make sure that you understand how to care for it properly to ensure that problems are kept to a minimum

. At times, it may be to your benefit to hire a pool service that will take care of the pool cleaning and other specific items that may be necessary. At other times, however, it is still going to be up to you to ensure that any routine maintenance is done which may not be covered under the pool cleaning service. What are some of those things that may need to be done?

It is likely that if you have a professional service take care of your pool, they will test the water on a regular basis. They will be responsible for adding any chemicals, such as water hardener, chlorine and a pH balancer. If they do not regularly test the chemicals in the water, you may need to take a sample of the water to your local pool store in order to have it tested in person. You can either provide them with the details from the testing or you can pick up the chemicals and add them to the pool yourself.

Something else that is good for regular pool maintenance is brushing the pool. This is especially important when the pool is new because it will help to keep the pool surface smooth. As a pool continues to age, it is still going to be necessary for you to brush it regularly but the timing between brushing this is going to be less important. Typically, you should brush up on a weekly basis when you add chemicals or you should brush at any time that you see algae begin to appear on the surfaces.

In most cases, keeping your pool chlorinated and brushing it on a regular basis is going to be enough to keep the stains away. There are going to be trouble stains, however and they can appear from time to time in your pool. These sort of stains are generally going to be a type of algae or other issue that is not easily removed and it may require very specific types of chemicals. If you are unfamiliar with how to use those chemicals, make sure that you ask plenty of questions before using them. Although they can be very effective at removing problem stains from the pool surface, they can also damage the surface of the pool if they are used improperly.

Regardless of whether you use a professional service or if you take care of the pool yourself, it's important for you to familiarize yourself with the process. There is plenty of information online which can be reviewed in order to help you to take care of the pool on your own. It is also important for you to understand the chemical levels within the pool and have a home testing kit so that you can avoid adding dangerous amounts of those chemicals. Not only will that help to make your pool more comfortable but it will be a welcoming part of the home, it will also help you to avoid problems that can occur when the chemicals are off balance.
