Taking Your Outfit From Drab To Fab
Accessorizing your outfit is a great way to add variety and excitement to your wardrobe
. With a little bit of planning and preparation, you can be the talk of the town with your new style.
One of the first things you can do is get ideas about different ways to accessorize your outfits. Window-shopping is a great way to see what is currently popular. Take a camera with you and snap a few shots of the store mannequins and how their outfits are put together. You can also watch how other people accessorize their outfits and take advice from them. You'll find people with outfits you love and outfits you hate. Magazines are a perfect place to check out other accessorizing possibilities.
One of the great things about looking at stores, magazines and other people is often you can take the basic ideas and add your own twists using items you already have.
When accessorizing, remember that a pop of color can go a long way. If you have a neutral basic outfit, like jeans and a solid colored shirt, adding a pop of color with a necklace, purse or shoes can add interest. Adding colored beads, or chains are a simple and easy way to add color to any neutral outfit and the necklace will bring attention up to your face.
It is a good idea to stick with two or three colors at a time when accessorizing. If you have a red and white outfit, adding another color can be tricky, and may look too forced. At the same time, however, don't go overboard with just one additional color. If you have a pair of jeans and a black shirt, adding pink shoes, a pink necklace and a pink bag would be going too far. Consider instead adding a white bag or silver jewelry.
When you do use accessories that are all the same or similar colors, select accessories that have different finishes. For example, pick a bag that is black fabric, but a shoe in patent leather with a black snakeskin belt. Adding different finishes makes accessories of the same color different and adds interest.
Another easy way to add interest to an outfit is layering. Consider wearing two shirts with different necklines and coordinating colors or wear a laced cami under a v-neck shirt. You can also add a cardigan over a cami or t-shirt to add interest. Adding interest in this way can even be enough that you can skip adding a necklace.
Be creative and confident as you accessorize and remember that sometimes less is more.
