Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tickets - Bucs Top Draft Report Card In Nfc South

The NFC South may have yielded last season's Super Bowl champion

, but it isn't the New Orleans Saints who ended up on the top of the latest division ranking. Instead, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are receiving the highest marks in their division for their selections in the 2010 NFL Draft. The Bucs were at the very bottom of the NFC South last season, finishing with a record of 3-13-a full five games behind the third-ranked Carolina Panthers. The other teams in the division will likely have to prepare for the Bucs more in 2010, considering their new talent.

The Bucs started off their impressive run by selecting Oklahoma defensive tackle Gerald McCoy in the first round (third overall). At 6-foot-4 and 295 pounds, McCoy has the size and stamina to make a major contribution to the Bucs defense. He has been compared to the legendary Warren Sapp in his techniques by NFL.com and is expected to transition well into Tampa's defensive scheme. If that wasn't enough insurance at the defensive tackle position, they also picked up UCLA defensive tackle Brian Price in the second round (35th overall).

The Bucs secured a second pick in Round Two (39th overall) from the Raiders and used it for University of Illinois wide receiver Arrelious Benn. Benn has size on his side at 6-foot-1 and 219 pounds, and he has the speed to match. The attention turned back to the defense in Round Three with the selection of Vanderbilt cornerback Myron Lewis with the 67th overall pick. In Round Four, the Bucs picked up a second wide receiver: Mike Williams from Syracuse. The only worry about Williams is his off-field actions, so the Bucs will have to make sure he keeps his personal life on track.

The Bucs were out of the fifth round but added some promising talent in the later rounds. Virginia Tech punter Brent Bowden was the team's sixth-round pick, and he could be an important component to the team in 2010. The team also picked up Virginia Tech linebacker Cody Grimm, Florida State linebacker Dekoda Watson and Stanford defensive end Erik Lorig in the seventh round. The Carolina Panthers came in just behind the Bucs on many report cards. They didn't have a first-round pick, but picked up Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen in the second round. Clausen was expected to go in the first round, meaning he was a steal for the Panthers. The Atlanta Falcons added a defensive threat with their first pick, selecting Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon. Weatherspoon is expected to start his first season. The Saints came in lowest on the report cards, mostly due to the fact that they had later picks because of their championship. The team added flexibility to their defensive scheme with the addition of Florida State cornerback Patrick Robinson with their first-round pick. They selected Southern California offensive tackle Charles Brown in the second round.
