Tata-Fiat's plant on boom with 2,00,000 powetrain engine manfacturing


FIAT India Automobile Ltd. today revealed its 200000th production of powertrain engine from its Ranjangaon plant in Pune. This plant has been manufacturing powertrains since July 2008. Fiat's facility in Ranjangaon is amongst the largest powertrain manufacturing plant anywhere in the world. This plant was set up to manufacture engines for Tata and Fiat engines and also for exporting the engines across Fiat's European facilities. Mr. Gurpratap Boparai, Vice president of Power Train Technologies, Fiat India Automobiles Ltd. stated that the state-of-the art Tata-Fiat manufacturing facility symbolises their commitment towards bringing cutting edge technology to India. He added that this remarkable figure of 2,00,000 powertrains within a short span of time is the evidence of commitment and tireless efforts of the team for both the partners. Ranjangaon plant is a perfect example of joint efforts of both these auto majors. This plant has also produced 110000 vehicles which includes both Tata and FIAT brand cars. For Tata, it manufactures Tata Indica and Tata Indigo and for Fiat it manufactures Fiat Palio, Fiat Punto and Fiat Linea. Tata Motors is one of the largest automobile company in India and its consolidated revenues in 2009-10 amounted to Rs. 92,519 crores. Tata Motors also operates in the UK, Thailand, South Korea and Spain through its associate companies and subsidiaries which includes two premium British brands of Jaguar and Land Rover. Tata cars and heavy vehicles are sold in several countries of Europe, Africa, the Middle East, South America, South Asia and South East Asia. Fiat India Automobiles Ltd.(FIAL) is a joint venture between Fiat Group Automobiles(S.p.a) and and Tata Motors Limited sharing 50 percent share each. Ranjangaon plant is owned by FIAL, a joint venture company which is capable of producing 2,00,000 cars and 3,00,000 engines. The investment in this plant is more than 650 million Euros and has a total of 4,000 employees. Fiat group which is one of the major automobile company was esablished in 1899. It operates in 190 countries and has 203 plants, 118 research centres, 633 companies, more than 1,98,000 employees which is a huge no. Since its foundation, Fiat has been innovative, strategic and penetrated towardes the foriegn market. Fiat's innovative approach is a proof of its quality products and immpressive industrial and organisational systems.
