I can only speak as a man with no existing tattoos but I do hope to get some in due course, I'm just waiting for the right time and the right idea. We have all seen the clich tattoos, the Chinese writing, the your name tattoos amongst many others. It is for some an over commercialised business that has become so mainstream that it is no longer something they wish to do. Programmes like Miami Ink and LA ink have made the whole tattooing industry look like they are just in it for the money when really it is more about the actual design and the satisfaction upon completion. But are tattoos attractive?

Well I guess it largely depends on what the tattoo is actually of, where it is and how big it is, and with those three things it is possible to distinguish how attractive it is. Most men have tattoos on their upper arms or their upper back and a lot of women see this as a sign of masculinity as long as they have the muscles to go with them. Tattoos anywhere else on a man is seen as a little bit camp and feminine, despite the likes of David Beckham and Colin Farrell to name but a few having them in different places.

On women the most popular places for tattoos to be placed are on the small of the back or possible on the lower stomach. Men find things like stars and flowers attractive whilst anything that is too manly is seen as a big put off. Tattoos can be very seductive if presented in the right way, and tattoos that celebrities have are seen as fashionable, and anything that is copied by women to mirror this is seen as attractive. Tattoos on the ankle are popular and anything like a rose that leads somewhere is seen as seductive and as a tease by many. In truth it is easier for women to have sexier tattoos than men as their variety is much greater, and aside from personal tattoos that mean something all other tattoos can be seen as stereotypical and clich, so keep your tattoos different and unique and you may well be able to use your tattoo to great effect, beware though if you get it wrong then you can end up with a hideous mess and a mistake that is not rectifiable without scarring your body.
