Gone are the days where the taxi driver would ask you to pay them up front or demand you leave their shoes with them as deposit. Now, thanks to in cab CCTV, these taxi drivers are safe in the knowledge that if you do a bunk, they aren't out of pocket.

Imagine this. You spend all day working. Its a Saturday so there have been plenty of fares and lots of big tippers too. With this system you will have several cameras recording your passengers every movement, an audio device recording them and even the option of a monitor to show them that you are filming them and encourage them to be well behaved. This whole system may be a bit on the pricey side but when you compare it to a days loss of earnings and your safety, it doesn't seem so steep.

In this case the in taxi CCTV system would have recorded the thieves getting into the taxi, recorded their faces and would even be able to tell you what they were whispering to each other just before they pulled the knife. All of this evidence could have been taken to the police so that the thieves were not only caught and punished but also made to pay back the money they stole. These things may not happen all the time but they still go on and those who are wise enough to take precaution against it will find themselves far safer in the long run.
