TaylormadeJapan introduces their all new R9 Max Ironfor 2009! TheR9features a dual head design made for both performance and control

. the 3-5 irons feature a high repulsion face with hollow cavity structure for increased distance. The 6-Wedge feature a more compact undercut pocket cavity with a focus on feel, control and accuracy. TheR9features variable face thickness. Starting with 2.0mm thick face in the long irons to 2.3mm in the mid irons and 2.5mm in the short irons for enhanced feel.

Let's face it for those of us who have tried the current Taylormade R9 on the market it just isn't the longest and compared to the previous Taylormade driver models in some cases has been noted to be shorter. We all know the best thing about the R9 is how adjustable it is and in many cases by adjusting to your specs creates more distance but for the golfer who has his/her swing in tune the carry is a bit lacking to some.

Distance and Control-Enhancing Technologies in a Classic Shape

TaylorMade has introduced the R9 MAX iron, designed to deliver modern performance and tremendous distance in a more classic package.

Like the Burner irons, theTaylormade R9 MAX long-irons and middle-irons were designed separately from the short-irons to optimize performance in each club. The result is that the 3-iron through 6-iron are extremely long and easy to hit, and the short-irons are engineered to promote great feel, control and accuracy.

Velocity-Control Chamber in the Long- and Middle-irons

Each R9 MAX long-iron and middle-iron (3- through 6-) houses a large and fully enclosed compartment positioned behind the clubface, underneath the cavity badge. Called the Velocity-Control Chamber (VCC), it makes it possible for an immense area of the ultra-thin (2.0 mm) clubface to exist unsupported. We call it a wrap-around clubface because it acts like a face that wraps around the top-line and the leading edge, which gives the face more freedom to flex and reflex at impact, much like a thin-faced driver.
