Teach Your Dog These Simple Tricks By Yourself
One of the things that need to be taken care of when you try to teach your dog some
new tricks is that you offer him a reward or snack every time he is successful. Also, while you are training him, look for a quite place to teach him. The training sessions should not extend beyond 10-15 minutes, since the dog would loose interest beyond that time. Encouragement is equally essential as a part of your dogs training.
To teach your dog to give him your paw, when you say the word paw, you can give him a take his paw in your hands and each tie you do this, give him a snack. After performing this several times, the next time that you say the word paw, hold his paw slowly. He may start bringing his paw closer to you by himself after a few trials, on hearing the word. In case your dog has not responded in this way, then you can repeat in the same way, and slow down later on. It will take about two or three sittings for your dog to learn this lesson.
Similar to the paw trick is high five. You just need to slightly modify the paw trick by placing a snack in your hand at a higher level than you did for the paw trick. This makes the dog to think that you are asking foe his paw. When he reaches for your hand, you have to say high five. In this way, the dog learns to give you a high five. After sometime, you do not need to say the words. Just raising your hand is enough to prompt him to give you his paw.
Another good trick is teaching your dog to jump through the hoop. You should hold the hoop low enough, so that your dog does not get hurt when he tries to jump through it. To begin, you will have to hold a piece of treat on the other side of the hoop. The dog will try to get it when he looks at the snack. He may try to reach the other side by turning around the loop or by coming from under the hoop. If this happens, then the snack should not be given to him. Gradually, the dog will learn that he can get the snack only if he jumps through the hoop. Once he does this, you can say hoopla and give him the snack. This way, he will learn to do the trick when you say the word hoopla to him.
For smaller dogs, it is better if the hoop is kept at ground level, since they may find it difficult to jump through higher hoops. Bigger dogs can jump through the higher hoop.
