Teaching English In China
China is an impressive adventure
China is an impressive adventure. From the wide open and empty panoramas of Tibet to the push and shove of Shanghai, the sheer diversity of China's terrain takes you from noisy cities bubbling with energy to isolated mountain-top Ming-Dynasty villages where you can hear a pin drop.
China is not another country, China is another world. An effervescent hub of technology, aching at the brink of over-population, a lively sparkling example of coexistence, forward thinking and variety. The future pressed into cities like Beijing and Shanghai, where the people are quick thinking and adaptive, living in futuristic small pod homes, unimaginably squeezing the most out of public transport and inviting each other to sit down to some of the most varied cuisine in the world.
And at the same time China is an ethereal pinnacle of tranquillity, it's a country where these hubs of modernity bleed into old world majesty. With wondrous places of serenity like the aptly named Temple of Heaven, to the awe inspiring feats of ancient architecture like the Terra Cotta Army or the stupendous Great Wall, China is a symbol of harmony and majesty all at once and it is a place that is drawing more and more attention from tourists.
With the new opportunities on ESL programmes in China, there seems no better way to experience the culture and the people that make this great country whilst you explore it, than to teach English in China. With a wide variety of placements and positions to fill on an "English as a second language" or ESL programme there are endless possibilities to how you can experience this fervent and creative country. With the opportunity to teach English in China as a teacher and a tourist you will experience the culture of China first hand meeting the people that make this country the hub of activity it is today. At the same time you will have the support of your ESL programme and will be paid for your teaching services providing you with ample living quality at around 14,000 RMB a month including living allowance, as well as the time to go out and experience the iconic land for yourself.
In terms of qualifications to obtain a position as an ESL teacher, you should preferably have at least two years' experience in teaching young children but this does not have to be language based but obviously the more qualified the greater level of position you will be able to obtain. However TEFL (Teach English as a Foreign Language) are held at learning centres all across the country if you would like to bump up your qualifications to apply for a better position. And once you're there the opportunity works both ways and you will even be given the chance to learn Mandarin whilst teaching English.
