Teaching Values While Explaining Subject-related Concepts: A Prespective

In the present scenario, in meetings with teachers

, we come across many teachers who believe that their role in school is restricted to completing the class syllabus in classroom and other tasks that are entrusted to them by the school authorities. Some of these teachers were once passionate about teaching. This passion died down over the years due to the amount of pressure on them.

However, the fact cannot be denied that they are still the nation-builders. They are in a very responsible position in the society whether the society acknowledges their role or not. Students are sent to them when they are like a clean slate on which anything can be written. It is the responsibility of the teachers. this has been stated without denying the role of parents in the lives of children. that they mould the children in a beautiful shape by inculcating good values, habits and etiquettes in them.

When this fact is stated, a lot of teachers complain that due to the amount of syllabus they have to cover, they do not have time for teaching values and etiquettes to students. Here, lets work out the solution to this issue or concern of teachers. A lot of good things can be taught to students while teaching them their syllabus book. All a teacher needs to do is to be a bit creative. Here are some examples of the statement made above.

While teaching subtraction, addition and multiplication to students, a teacher took out 2-3 extra minutes to state that as human beings we should make efforts to subtract bad habits and weaknesses from our lives and try to add good values like helping each other and sharing things with one another.

Another teacher while teaching properties of protons, neutrons and electrons in science class, stated that properties of protons, neutrons and electrons are relevant in our lives as well. People with positive charge stay within the nucleus wherein people with negative charge stay outside the nucleus. That is why people talk so much about being happy, lively and positive. Here a nucleus may mean nucleues of love, care and respect of other people. Language teachers also have a lot of opportunities to bring in such statement while teaching a chapter in class.

The above-stated examples show that we have situations around us to teach values, all we need to do is to be more conscious of this role of ours and do not miss these opportunities. Enjoy!
