Murrayfield Golf Course is a sight to behold

Murrayfield Golf Course is a sight to behold. Only a mere five minutes away from the centre of Edinburgh, the club circles around Corstorphine Hill and therefore you won"t just be enjoying a game of golf but soaking in amazing views of Edinburgh, East Lothian & Fife. The 18-hole course is sure to take it out of you over the day so a reservation at a nearby Murrayfield Hotel is key to success.

The Golf Club was created in 1896 when golf suddenly became very popular at the turn of the century. The founding members had an intense passion for the game and were quick to develop the original 12-hole course. Intending to be simply a local club by limiting the membership only to 300 men and 200 women, the club has since gone a long way in now becoming a major tourist attraction whilst also retaining much of its authenticity, such as the still-standing clubhouse which was opened in 1912. It was the match between Harry Vardon and James Braid in 1904 that attracted thousands to the site and definitely played a part in how successful the course would soon become. The club has had some famous players in its time such as W. G. Bloxsom, A. M. Ross and inter-war player William John Guild, winner of the Scottish Amateur Championship in 1926. The site also offers a Pro Shop to tend to all your golfing needs, and less experienced golfers the Young Masters Golf Coaching Scheme (YMG).

Currently, situated next to the Golf Club is a private road, Easter Belmont Road. This is important to note as this road is one of Edinburgh's "Millionaire's Rows" where the lifestyles of the rich and famous are exemplified for all to see. Keith Miller and local businessman David Murray are just two of the people who live on this road. If you too want to have a slice of the privileged and exuberant lifestyle whilst playing golf in the area, the Edinburgh Hilton Hotel is surely a place to indulge in personal luxuries. If you are in Edinburgh and have an active interest in Golf, this is definitely a must-do.
