Teenager Unable To Explain Reasons Behind Motoring Offences

A teenager has been banned from driving for one year and ordered to partake in 120

hours of unpaid work after admitting to committing a number of motoring offences.

The teenager has pleaded guilty to being involved in an accident after he took a car without consent, he has also pleaded guilty to drinking and driving. The teenager also had no insurance and no driving licence. The string of offences committed were all very serious and required lots of thought from the court on how best to punish the youth.

The court was told of how the teenager was at an 18th birthday party when he heard a phone ring in a bag, when he looked inside the bag the phone was found along with the keys to the car. He then proceeded to take the keys and drove off in his friend's car.

Shortly after he left the party the police were called to a collision involving the teenager, when they arrived at the scene the teenager immediately admitted to driving the car. He also admitted he had taken the car without consent. He said he could not explain why he had decided to take the car, police believe it was the effect of the alcohol in his system.

When police performed a breathalyser test on the teenager he was found to have 49 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath- the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

The defence team have described how the teenager is usually a good citizen and an active member of his local tennis and rugby clubs. His recent behaviour is said to be bizarrely out of character.

The judge chose to sentence him to a one year community order that sees him carry out 120 hours of voluntary work. A yearlong driving ban has also been enforced and six points will be added to his licence. He has also been ordered to pay 85 in court costs.
