At a certain point, teens start to want money to buy things like video games and cell phones
. Some of them want money for dates and maybe want to start saving for a car. Every summer, a whole new group of teenagers start looking for their first job and this year is no different.
This summer of 2009 might see more teens than ever looking for jobs. This is because so many adults have become unemployed that they might need their children to find jobs and help out the family situation. Children used to work on the farm in old times to help out and this year might be similar in that many families might benefit from any money the kids can bring in.
More adults than usual may be willing this summer to take jobs they might not have ordinarily taken just because that is all that is available. These are the types of jobs that are minimum wage and require little experience and are the jobs teenagers usually take. This summer could see more and more situations where there are just not enough jobs to go around and both adults and teens are competing for the same ones.
Teenagers also want jobs so that they can get some job experience. Any sort of job experience that can be put on a resume is important for young adults if they are to get better jobs down the line. Getting any kind of work experience is good for teenagers to help them learn responsibility and show prospective employers that they can be trusted.
This summer though, teens might need a job more for the money they can make than the experience they can get. More families than ever can use the extra side income that a teenager can make and the pressure for them to get a job might be intense. If the economy does not start to improve along with the job situation, this might be a very difficult summer for many.
