Teeth Health Basics

Everyone experiences having teeth at some point in our lives

, they are the ones above the chin and under the nose, but do you really know everything about them? Here's what you need to know about teeth. There are different kinds of teeth because each one serves a different function. The incisors are the teeth in the front.

In shoveling food in, these incisors which are the sharpest, help. Canine teeth grow near the corner of the mouth. When it comes to tearing or grasping food, these teeth with long roots function well.

Right at the back of the canines are the teeth known as premolars, which work their flat surfaces to crush food. The chewing surface of molars are bigger and flatter and they are generally larger than the premolars. These work on grinding food into very small pieces.

The two basic parts of teeth are crown and root. Right under the gum line is the root which constitutes 66 percent of the tooth's length while the crown is what you see once you open your mouth. A distinct kind of tissue makes up every single one of our teeth.

A tough coating known as the enamel secures the tooth from wear and tear due to chewing. The yellowish bone-like matter that contains nerve fibers and supports the enamel is the dentin. The core of each tooth is called a pulp and it is also where the blood, nerves and lymph vessels are found.

The pulp derives nourishment for the tooth and it also sends out signals to the brain. The part of the tooth that connects it to the jaws as well as covers it is what we call the cementum. Connecting the jawbone and cementum is a cushioning layer known as the periodontal ligament.

While we know that braces are popular orthodontic treatments for misaligned teeth, do you know precisely how it functions? Speaking and chewing are properly promoted by straight teeth that also makes one look better. Unnatural spaces and crocked teeth are difficult to clean and are more likely to develop cavities. Pain and discomfort is known to arise when teeth are crooked and affects the jaw lines as well.

This can be corrected by orthodontic methods like braces and retainers. Crooked and misaligned teethe is treated by orthodontic treatments which use time and general pressure to correct these. Braces have three parts that cling to each tooth, first of which is the band or bonding that attaches to the tooth bracket and arch wire which is basically a tin metal wire that connects the brackets.

Braces with transparent brackets or ones that can be attached to the back of the teeth can now be availed by many orthodontic patients. Indeed, braces have come a long way from the train track days of old. After braces have been removed, the patient may need to use retainers.

Teeth in their new positions are kept straight by mouth appliances called retainers. These hold the answer in minor orthodontic problems.

Beauty and overall wellness can be achieved by having straight and healthy teeth. Not only will you have a healthy body but you'll also have loads of reasons to smile about when you know how to care for your teeth properly.
