Telecom Services In Pakistan

In 1948, after the departure of the British troops from the Indian subcontinent

, the Dominion of Pakistan was established. It become a republic in 1956 and since then, up to the fleeting 2010, it has changed, developed and grown so much, that presently more than 170 million people live there, which makes Pakistan the 6th most populated country in the world, next to China, India, United States, Indonesia, and Brazil. Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTC) is shouldering the burden of supplying the local people's demands of cheap calls. It is the biggest telecommunication company in Pakistan.

Unfortunately, in July 2010, the telecommunication fee jumped sky-high, reaching 10 pence per minute, when calling from the UK. Luckily, PTC allows the use and making of cheap international calls.

Pakistan has a short list of Mobile Phone Networks. These are Ufone, Jazz (Mobilelink), Telenor Paktel Warid and SCO. The most popular of these is Ufone, which is operated by PTC. It offers the best Internet coverage across Pakistan, and thus becomes very important, since the new mobile plans let you check your email.

Mobilelink is the 2nd most widely used company out of these, and it's plans have such cheap rates, that even the poorest farmer can afford it. That is, if he chooses to use mobile communications at all.

Paktel is the 3rd telecommunication operator, which was bought by a Chines company and has been renamed to az Zang, even though it is still mostly called by its original name.

Similar to the practice in the UK, the calling plans provided by the various companies are mostly similar. What defers are the additional bonuses, included in them: voice mail, SMS text-messaging, call waiting and forwarding options. Luckily for the customers, certain Internet sites also provide free SMS to Mobilelink and Ufone, which not only saves you money, but also helps you stay in touch with your family and friends from every place and in all circumstances. In addition, certain telecommunication providers in the UK have started offering cheap calls to Pakistan, which makes calling your relatives there that much easier.
