Telemarketing Calls: To Make or not to Make
Telemarketing Calls: To Make or not to Make
There is a growing debate on something that is another looming threat to the BPO world. One is obviously the anti-offshore legislation of USA. Another is the creation of national do-not-call lists in almost every civilized country. Telemarketing firms are keeping their fingers crossed at the developments that are taking place in this field. The creation of DNC registry could not stop the menace of telemarketing calls.
Tons of complaints keep pouring into the telecom department every day. Finally the department has decided to act. Now that they have seen that the DNC list is difficult to impose, the administrators are looking at creating a do-call list. By this, there will be a blanket ban on all phone numbers in the country. Only those customers who sign up for the list will receive calls from a telemarketing call center.
If such a list comes into power, the repercussions are going to be powerful. Such a list has the potential to rub the slate on telemarketing completely! There will few who will sign up on this list to welcome telemarketing calls. The lack of awareness that such a list exists led to the death knell of the DNC list. Once the DC list comes into practice, the same problem will persist.
The telemarketing company will be left with no database to call. Shutters will be effectively down on thousands of BPO centers across the country. People employed in telemarketing call center units will lose their jobs indiscriminately. The duck that lays the golden eggs would be slain, for all practical purposes. It's no wonder then that telecom companies are up in arms against the imposition of such a ban on telemarketing calls.
There is wisdom in saying that the matter needs to be tackled in a different way. The telemarketing sector earns and generates enough revenue to justify its existence as well as its importance to the economy. Telemarketing services are here to stay. It's still a budding industry in many countries, though its growth can only be termed by the word phenomenal.
The administrators wouldn't like to throttle such a thriving money hive. There is better sense in ironing out the creases in the DNC structure. A proper assessment of the set-up will reveal flaws that unscrupulous telemarketing business firms are taking advantage of.
A stronger effort in the DNC infrastructure and imposition would be the best step forward. That way the telemarketing sector gets purged off elements that could have resulted in their downfall. Similarly, the lawmakers should consider penalizing the errant telemarketing company heavily so as to set some precedence.
The telemarketing business firms need to get their act together as well. They have to adopt the best practices of making telemarketing calls. Nothing can be more disastrous for the telemarketing services sector than a blanket ban on all calls. While the telecom industry may just as well relent to allow the telemarketing call center units to function as usual, too many violations of the DNC list would mean greater danger. The onus is clearly on the telemarketing company.
