Television is as basic a commodity as food in this contemporary world of Science. TV is just not a media for entertainment, but also enhances the knowledge of viewers with respect to education, culture, travel, weather, news, sports, agriculture, animal kingdom, home shopping products and various other topics.

With Television forming an unavoidable part of day to day life, as each and every household have a Television set, irrespective of the strata in the society, people have started spending lot of time in front of television.

The most commonly used term for the television set is "Idiot Box". But the gist of the phrase is directed towards someone else. It is increasingly becoming difficult to assess whether television is a bane or a boon. So it is easier to classify this box as both. Television is Bane because it eats away the time and boon because it provides entertainment and information both.

Several TV channels run day and night to keep their viewers informed about various topics. In fact some TV channels entertain their viewers with never ending Soap Operas and dramas along with realty shows. These channels are particularly popular amongst the middle aged housewives and old age ladies with little or no work. Of course men are also regular viewers of such Television shows but with regular criticism.

With the provision of LCD Television sets, this otherwise idiot box is gaining more popularity due the fuller image and latest technology. Samsung LCD TVs price in Indiaare increasingly becoming a craze both in high class and middle class families. In fact it is not so dear to the pockets of the viewers.

Sports channels are also viewed with greater interest amongst the male dominated society. Cricket and lawn tennis are particularly getting popular as this LCD revolution has made viewing easier and fuller.

With the advent of latest technology called LCD and HCD, Flat screen box type televisions are getting much cheaper and hence the lower middle and lower strata of society can afford them easily. In these sections of society, even if they don't have food to eat, they still have a television to watch.

If this is the approach of life than television sets are indeed inevitable and unavoidable companion of life.
