Raising a child is both a happy and a challenging experience. I don't think any parent will disagree when I say that having a kid brings about so much love, but that it's also a nightmare, especially when they hit the two or three year old mark. This is the age when kids go through what we call the terrible twos, where throwing tantrums become part of everyday routine. I'm sure your home would still be filled with laughter and joy when they're not throwing a fit, that is. Parents react differently to tantrums. Some punish the child for it, some soothe their child and some just ignore it. We all want to be the best parents for our children, so we should all ask "what is the right way to deal with tantrums?"First, we need to know what causes tantrums. About 98% of the time, tantrums are caused by frustration. You don't listen to them - they get frustrated, they can't express themselves - they get frustrated, you stop them from doing what they want to do - they get frustrated. And how do kids express frustration? They scream, cry, kick and in some extreme cases they also bite, throw themselves on the floor or bang their head on the wall. All parents need to understand that kids throw tantrums because of their emotions, and not because they want to. It's a natural part of their growing up. Now, how could you punish something that happens naturally? That would be a little unfair, wouldn't it? According to experts, the best way to handle tantrums are to ignore them. It may seem difficult at first, but you need to establish with your child that crying and screaming is not the way to get your attention. If your child hasn't started with the terrible twos yet and you've already read this - lucky you. Ignoring tantrums the first time they happen has a higher chance of being effective.If he goes right up to you and cries, look the other way. You can even leave the room as long as you're sure that it's safe to leave him there. It is hard to see your child cry, and it's even heart-breaking to see him helpless. If we truly love our child though, ignoring him while he's having a tantrum is the only way to truly stop it.
