Temping at a Recruitment Agency

I had recently moved to Cheshire and was looking for an opportunity to work in the nearby area. After trawling various websites looking for appropriate vacancies, I decided that it might be easier to visit a professional and went to register with a recruitment agency. My appointment was at 3.00pm and I arrived a good ten minutes early. The interview process was quite straight forward. I had to answer some questions on my previous work experience and discuss my skill sets in detail. The final part of the interview was a simple computer based test designed to analyse my personality, strengths and weaknesses. A few days later the recruitment consultant called and asked if I would like to work at the agency. I would be working as a recruitment consultant and if I showed potential there was the possibility of a more permanent role. I was very flattered and accepted the job offer. They asked me to start work on the following Monday. Monday came around very quickly and I was very nervous. I think a first day in any job is nerve racking and I had no industry experience in recruitment. My induction involved a tour of the small offices, meeting the other members of staff and a quick training session on the computer systems. The following day I was shown how to source vacancies and how to match candidates appropriately. It involved a lot of telesales skills and I was not confident about my capability to do the job. The first job I sourced was for a company Dealer Web Management who created and managed web -pages for car sales. I managed to fill the position and the company were very happy with the quality of candidates I sent to the interviews. The recruitment company must have recognised my potential in the first interview as I am still working there, five years down the line.
