Ten Honest Tips About Weight Loss

Anyone trying to lose weight has probably learned the hard lesson that there is a lot of bad advice circulating and even more bad products claiming great results. I don't want to suggest that there isn't good advice out there-- after-all i'm about to offer my own!-- or that there aren't good products available. Only, I think that weight loss is such an emotional issue that people impulsively buy products without much investigation into their claims and legitimacy. Hopefully, the 10 honest tips i offer here will be of some use, and maybe even help shed some of those unwanted pounds.

1. Exercise. Diet plans and pills that advertise weight loss without exercise are usually trash, dangerous or downright misleading. Exercise is the best way to burn calories and best of all, it's free! Seriously though, the right workout plan can help to shed serious weight. Better yet, working out improves brain function, overall health and mood. If you aren't working out, start. How many people do you know who work out thirty minutes a day, five days a week who are unfit? Not many. If you think you don't have the time, make some! There is no more honest tip than this. If you want to look good, feel good and live good you must exercise!

2. Drink Water: Our bodies are primarily made up of water. Now the age old adage that we need eight glasses of eight ounces a day does seem to be false, but it doesn't mean that we can get away without drinking lots of water. Many people are dehydrated without knowing ever knowing it. Dehydration can result in poor nutritional absorption, irritability and weight gain. Staying hydrated will give you the energy and mood to workout regularly. Some research even suggests that it will help curb your appetite.

3. Ignore Diet Pills: Not all diet pills are bad. But as a general rule, you should avoid them. I'm sure you've heard stories of tape worms in a pill? Well regulations prevent that from happening now, but weight loss pills can still be dangerous. Many of these are not FDA approved and lack real clinical studies. If the product doesn't boast of double blind, independent studies, it shouldn't be trusted. Maybe its claims are true, but without verification, you are wasting your money!

4. Diet Effectively: Don't trust your own sense of healthy eating. Look for trustworthy resources for dietary tips. If you have a big appetite, find low calorie but filling foods. You don't have to starve yourself to lose weight. Programs like Jenny Craig boast and Nutrisystem make healthy eating easy, but honestly, you needn't waste your money. The same results can come from your own kitchen!

5. Exercise: Seriously, this one is worth repeating.

6. Read a Book: This one may be counter-intuitive, but exercising your mind is a good way to maintain a positive mood. And positive moods usually translate to an active lifestyle, and an active lifestyle translates to a positive mood. See the pattern yet? It's all interconnected! Those days that i spend lounging around watching tv and playing video games are always the worse for my mood and mental health! We need those days sometimes, but why not spend them reading a book!

7. Rest: Again, perhaps a counter-intuitive tip. But without rest, our bodies will not have the energy and motivation to work out. Take at least two days a week off and rest up. Your bodies will thank you!

8. Sleep: Eight hours of sleep, at a minimum are a must. If you don't have that much time to dedicate, rethink your priorities. You'll be much happier, more energized and skinnier if you spend a little more time with your eyes shut at night.

9. Make a Friend: Find someone to exercise with you! It will be a support system that ensures you work out. Better yet, get a dog. Studies have shown that people are more likely to take a run or walk when they have a dog than a human partner. Dogs always want exercise and will never convince you to skip a day!

10. Stop Reading About Weight Loss: If you follow these tips, you'll lose weight. So stop reading about weight loss, stop being scammed by companies trying to make a buck. And just go outside, run around, eat well and lose some weight!
