Ten Simple Guidelines For The Best Ways To Hang Photos

Because everyone likes to do things differently

, you'll discover that every person has their own thoughts on how hanging pictures should be done. There aren't any hard and fast rules, but you are likely to find these ten suggestions very helpful the next time you wish to hang up some picture frames.

1. Use candle wax on threads to serve as a lubricant and to keep the screw from breaking when you screw it into the frame.

2. When installing your frames you should use either D-rings, or screw eyes, which should be positioned on each of the sides, about a fourth of the way down from the top edge of the frame. Make sure that you drill small pilot holes first to avoid the potential of the frame breaking, and avoid positioning the pilot holes too near to the edges. Furthermore, if your frame has a sloped or uneven molding, make sure to place the pilot holes in the deepest place in the wood.

3. Before you hang a frame, you will always want to make sure that the method you've chosen for hanging it will be completely adequate for the full weight of the picture frame that you are hanging. Most nails and picture hanging fixtures and fittings come with a specific weight rating to help direct you, so be certain that you know at least the approximate weight of the picture frame or frames you will be hanging.

4. Make sure that you use good strong picture cord or picture wire for hanging up your pictures- do not skimp by using twine or thread and risk your pictures becoming damaged. Some people also prefer to use chain, but it is not nearly as common.

5. If you do decide to use cord as opposed to wire, then it is a good idea to use a knot that is self-tightening, such as a reef knot. After you have threaded the cord through each of the rings, ensure that it is tied firmly with a reef knot. Doing a reef knot is easy - right over left and under, then left over right and under.

6. If you decide to go with the picture wire instead of the cord, simply take the end and double wrap it through screw eye or D-ring, whatever you use, and then secure each end by wrapping it back around itself on its way back towards the middle of the frame.

7. You can buy X hooks that come with matching nails; these are usually the best to use in softer walls. If your walls are harder, then the better thing might be a big X hook along with some wall anchors.

8. You will want to test the sturdiness of your hanging method when you're all done securing it to the back of the frame; you may do this by holding the picture by the cord. Make sure that you are holding the cord roughly six inches above the floor - you would not want the wire or cord to fail, leaving your treasured antique picture frames falling rapidly to the floor!

9. As you try to determine where to place the hook for hanging your picture on the wall, keep in mind that you should probably hang it at eye level because that is usually where it is most eye-catching.

10. To keep the picture away from your wall, use two pieces of cork or other soft material on both bottom corners of your picture frame.

You are sure to be thrilled with the outcome when you experiment with these tips for hanging pictures.
