Five and a half years after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Tenet Healthcare Corp. has finally settled a class action lawsuit which had been filed against the corporation.

This class action suit mentioned that the health care business that was taking care of patients at Memorial Medical Centre was not ready for the loss of power following the storm.

Along with this, it had been explained how the medical center did not abide by proper evacuation plans, and did not take various other important emergency steps.

As soon as the power had been cut and the levees gave in, the center began to overflow, and temperatures within rose to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

This left employees and patients stranded without a way of opening the windows or getting aid. The centre waited four days for help to come, and consequently for many it was too late.

Forty five bodies had been collected from the medical centre following the hurricane, the highest quantity of any medical center in the region.

Because of the overwhelming amount of deaths, the hospital was placed under enormous critique. The Louisiana Attorney General, Charles Foti had three doctors arrested for second-degree murder.

Soon after going to the courts, the physicians were released, and one of them is now in the act of suing Foti for damage and defamation to her career.

Nonetheless, the employer of these three physicians, Tenet Healthcare Corp. has been in the courts for class actions multiple instances since Hurricane Katrina.

They also have been forced to settle eleven additional cases dealing with the simple situation of neglect. The most recent court case which achieved a settlement on Wednesday was between Preston and Tenet.

A spokesperson for Tenet has claimed that the settlement deal is "amicable" even though no formal specifics have been revealed for the reason that court still needs to say yes to the ruling.

Overall, Tenet Healthcare Corp. forfeited in excess of $150 million in damages during Katrina. Half a dozen of their hospitals had been damaged, and the organization planned to sell off several of the medical centres located in the New Orleans region prior to 2007.

This has been a long few years for the Preston family as well as the New Orleans region in general. Due to over 1,800 casualties and more than $80 billion in damages, the metropolis is still rebuilding currently.
