Tennis Anyone? Absolutely, in Puerto Vallarta
What made you decide to holiday in a Puerto Vallarta vacation rental? Was it the sparkling clear water of Banderas Bay? The lively beach scene and livelier night life? Was it zip lines, dolphin encounters and snorkel gear? Maybe it was all of the above, and why not? They're all worthy reasons to spend time in this resort city on the bay, but the list leaves out one note-worthy and very important activity tennis.
Puerto Vallarta is considered one of Mexico's finest tennis resort destinations, and no wonder. There are facilities all over town. Do you like hard surface play? They have that. Prefer synthetic grass? Oh, yeah. Is your game better indoors? Then this is your place. Make a phone call or two and reserve a court before you leave your Puerto Vallarta vacation rental then knock yourself out knocking tennis balls over the net.
The following list can help you get started on the perfect tennis court, the one that will let you strut your game as only you can. Many of the facilities are located in resorts, and most of them rent by the hour.
The Paradise Village Club, in Nuevo Vallarta, offers five hardcourts with Dacor II surface, as well as a stadium court. You can rent a court Tuesday through Sunday between 8 am and 6 pm for $15 hour. Call them at 322 297 0773 to make reservations.
The Westin Regina, on Paseo de la Marina Sur in the Marina, has three synthetic grass courts that are available from 7 am to 9 pm for $10 per hour. They host tournaments on Saturdays. You can reach them at 322 226 1143 for reservations.
If you need to work on your backhand, you can get lessons at Casa Magna Marriott, also in the Marina. If your backhand is nearly perfect, rent one of their synthetic grass courts for $11 per hour. They're available at 322 226-0000 x6244 to help you set things up.
A number of resorts in the Hotel Zone have lighted tennis courts; check with Hotel Krystal (224 0202), Holiday Inn (226 1700) and Sheraton Buganvilias (226 0404 x6525).
The Canto del Sol Tennis Club, at the Canto del Sol Hotel in the Hotel Zone, provides some excellent tennis facilities, including indoor and outdoor courts, clay courts, and laykold courts (very nice for rainy days). You can step on a court for $15 hour; the club sponsors tournaments and offers lessons and clinics (226 0123 x4187).
