Tennis Tickets - 2010 Wimbledon Preview: Men's Singles

Pro tennis players around the world are gearing up for the start of the 2010 Wimbledon

Grand Slam tournament in England, which commences June 21, 2010 and runs through July 4. 14 title holders will make their marks on the grass courts this year at Wimbledon, and names like Federer, Nadal and Roddick have already sent fans across the globe searching for tennis tickets for this year's tournament.

Wimbledon pits the world's most prolific netters against one another in one of the most prestigious Grand Slam tournaments of the year, and excitement is already running rampant for the 2010 edition. On the men's side, surprising news emerged this week with the announcement of seeds for upcoming tournament play as Roger Federer, the current world No. 2, has upstaged Rafael Nadal (currently No. 1) for the top seed.

Federer and Nadal are the elite two in the ATP right now, and even despite Nadal's recent victory at the clay-court French Open, Federer's six career Wimbledon wins and reigning title have allowed him to surpass the Spaniard for the No. 1 seed. This doesn't mean much for bracket play, as both players are the leading seeds in their respective draws, but it could place some heavy expectations on them heading into this month's Wimbledon tourney.

At last year's Wimbledon men's singles championships, Federer beat out Andy Roddick in a marathon match 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 16-14. Defending champion Rafael Nadal withdrew from the tournament due to knee tendonitis, unable to compete against Federer, whom he had beaten in the championships at Wimbledon in 2008.

While he has the upper hand as the reigning Wimbledon champ, Federer hasn't been on top of his game as of late. Most recently, the Swiss tennis player was ousted in the quarterfinals by Robin Soderling at the French Open, ending his record of 23 straight Grand Slam semifinal appearances.

Nadal is still gaining steam after coming off a nagging knee injury, but he looks to be a solid contender at Wimbledon this year and will provide for much excitement over the next few weeks. While a Federer-Nadal rematch for the finals is something that will almost be expected at Wimbledon this year, there are still some other top names that could make the finals at this year's prestigious tournament.

As far as seeds go heading into Wimbledon, Serbia's Novak Djokovic is seeded No. 3, with Britain's Andy Murray at No. 4, U.S.A.'s Andy Roddick at No. 5 and Sweden's Robin Soderling at No. 6. Australia's Lleyton Hewitt, though currently ranked No. 26 in the ATP, scored the No. 15 seed at the upcoming tournament, and he's still looking for that follow-up to his 2002 Wimbledon title.

Will the 2010 Wimbledon finals be another predictable matchup between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer or will less flamboyant players like Novak Djokovic and Robin Soderling, both steadily creeping up the rankings, launch surprise attacks on the usual suspects? It's all to come at Wimbledon, and the action in the men's singles championships kicks off June 21.
