Modern tents are now made of waterproof fabric called a flysheet. Varying tents have more than one layer of flysheets. Those used in cool regions have insulation mechanisms. These tents may also be equipped with ventilation, windows or air vents, and even a sort of porch. These are for tents used for camping and temporary shelter like small outdoor gatherings.

There are actually different tent shapes. For example, the dome-shaped tent is the most common for camping; dome tents vary in size depending of the number of occupants. The largest is the family-sized tent that can accommodate as many as five. A-framed tents were previously common, but were later modified for optimum functionality.

The tent also comes with interior design services, depending on the event; dining tables, a dance floor and a stage are some of the optional internal additions.
