Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) the most anticipated and most awaited the
state of the art integrated Terminal T3 was inaugurated recently on 3rd July 2010 by the Indian Prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Saturday. Indias biggest and fanciest terminal ever with 9 floored Delhi Airport is counted as the 3rd biggest among the worlds Largest Airport terminal in the world in terms of size after Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Beijing in China with a capacity to handle 60 millions passengers annually.
The total expenses incurred on the T3 building summed approximately around $2.8 billion through its collaborative business venture by the GMR Group, Fraport and along with other entities 37 months ago. The massive size of the airport covers an area more than 125 acres of land, with floor size of 6.4 million square ft, 78 aerobridges and 92 automatic walkways. The insider of the airport structure is fabulously marvelous, a world club class interior designing containing dozens of elegant fountains and amazing examples showcasing the Indian culture in the form of large sculptures, walls adorned with art based on the theme of 'Flavors of India' and brightly-lit corridors with the luxurious facility spread to every corner. T3 Terminal is a two tier building with the bottom floor set for the arrival area and the top floor set for the departure area consisting 168 check-in counters, 72 immigration counters, 78 aerobridges, 15 X-ray system set up, 3000 security cameras installed, 63 elevators, 31 escalators spread all over, 30 parking bays and dozens of duty free stores. The new Terminal T3 has been completed for 2010 Commonwealth Games. In order to make the T3 successful project of all time, AAI have decided to directly move domestic services of airlines and carriers to T3 by the end of July. Officials speculate that up to 88% of the Indira Gandhi International Airports traffic will be directed to Terminal 3.
