Termites Days Are Numbered Thanks To Modern Methods

It used to be the way that whenever anyone found termites in the home or garden

, the local exterminator was called in to sort out the matter. This still happens, of course, but some methods of dealing with the problem are far more obtrusive than others. Those who have had to have the garden decimated will understand what this means and they do not like it for sure.

In the past and used still to this day, the garden would have a deep trench dug in it to form a complete circle around the house. Then, gallons of toxic chemicals would be poured into this hole to form a sort of chemical barrier to stop the creatures from invading the home. Although this worked for some time, eventually, through natural means, the chemicals would break down and the house would be left vulnerable to attack again when the whole process would have to be repeated.

Anyone who has poured their heart and soul into designing a wonderful garden will know how devastating this can be since no mature plants could stand the disruption for sure.

These days though there are other methods which seem to take care of the problem in a much more high-tech way which does not cause all the heartache of ripping up valued plant life. This consists of sinking narrow tubes into the ground at regular intervals around the house, much like the trench but without all the digging, so that food and poison can be put inside.

What happens then is rather very clever since the inventors have worked on the natural behavior of the pest to help to kill it. These pests are always looking for food, that is any wood that is around which may just include the home and anything in it, and when they find a food source, they lay scent trails to tell others where to come and eat.

These feeding stations then attract the creatures who find enough food to eat and take back to the nest for the colony to have at the same time. Of course, the whole point of feeding poisoned bait is for the queen to be taken this food so that she will succumb to the poison and die. Once she is dead, the whole colony will die anyway since she is the only one who is producing young.

The feeding stations are monitored by operatives who carry handheld computers so a full record of activity is kept very well. Once they can see where the creatures are coming from, they concentrate their efforts on those feeding tubes which will cut down on the amount of poison being used for sure.

The beauty of the system is twofold. One is that the tubes stay in situ for future use should there be another attack. The other is that they can be used even around historic sites where digging is not an option. Indeed, who could imagine an iconic building like the White House having a trench built right through the famous rose garden?
