Get to Know the StarCraft 2 Races

Get to Know the StarCraft 2 Races

If you're new to StarCraft 2 or maybe are just curious about the other races after having stuck with one for awhile yourself, it's important to understand the StarCraft 2 race comparison to know the strengths and weaknesses of each and be able to decide which race is best suited for you given your play style. This is the complete StarCraft 2 race comparison.

Terran

The first race that we will tackle on this StarCraft 2 comparison of races is the human race or the Terran, which is a commanding race with heavy hitting and deals smash ups through the use of heavy force. This type of race is best for beginners because it is the most simple and trouble-free race and the functions of the buildings and units can be easily understood. One advantage of Terrans is that while in the beginning they are the most basic race at first with Marines and Marauders but they arguably develop into the most diverse race at mid and later levels of a game in terms of combinations and what they can do than the other two.

Strengths - fixing of buildings and vehicles, construction of structures, strong defiance, invisibility detection,, seeing through enemies against heavy fogs, winching up of buildings, healing while on transport, strong blockade capabilities, easy setting on and off the ground by reapers, and the automatic immersion of supply depots below the ground.

Weaknesses - More micromanaging of units required, buildings burn to the ground at low health, bunkers take a lot of resources and man power though they are effective for defense.

Protoss

Next to mention in the StarCraft 2 race comparison is the Protoss, a race specializing in Psy energy and technology. One major thing about Protoss is that multiple structures can already be built by a single probe, saving you the trouble of building the units and make a base. Zealots and Stalkers are the strongest and the most powerful races among its kind. "Chrono Boost" is an ability that speeds up the production of the structures and is very much helpful in upgrading Gateways to Warpgates. This is another great choice for beginners.

Strengths - Probes construct may building at once, buildings can warp themselves, great defense units, self-restorating plasma shields, warm prisms can be used as a substitute for pylon matrix, easy going up and down the terrain by colossi, mothership capabilities can be used for a stronger defense, photon cannons can strike on land and air, warpgates can be easily warped for a faster deployment.

Weaknesses - Pricey construction time, limited area for psionic matrix, structures go off the matrix plan, colossi are anti - air attacks vulnerable, grave vespene use.

Zerg

The third and final race type is called the Zerg, which is the most difficult race but also the most powerful. This is a swarm race in which your strength lies in numbers rather than individual powerful units. The major upside is that the units are cheap and are able to be built quickly and with a good grasp of the ability to macro you can expand and grow your economy quickly to support the continual high production of units with which to overwhelm your opponent in numbers.

Strengths - Units are quickly built and cheaply, all land units are able to burrow underground, the Infestor and Roach can both burrow and move underground, hatchery builds 3 units at a time rather than 1, units heal automatically when on the creep, the Overseer can detect and transport when mutated, Zerg defensive structures are able to uproot and move, Zerg gain 30% speed both while on creep, ability to instantly transport all units anywhere using Nydus worm, Overlords provide supply, can create creep and fly.

Weaknesses - The units are vulnerable to splash attacks and destruction because they travel in groups, units are not that strong, structures must be constructed on creeps, drones get lost when new buildings are built. One final note, if you are new to the game, stick with one race and master it rather than spreading your game out amongst them all as it's far more important to be great with one than good with 2 or all 3, enabling you to be as competitive and successful as possible. After mastering that one game you have chosen, then you can already start playing for the two other races to get familiarized with the other races and knowing your opponent's move and tactics.
