First thoughts
As a terrorism investigator my first thought in this case could be the church has been set on fore or bombed.
Possibilities
In this case, the possibilities could be as a result of political affiliation of the pastor as he had been spotted in the news supporting a particular candidate for local office. On this basis, the church could have been bombed by a white man as it is indicated by the neighbor who saw a white male coming from the back of the church fifteen minutes before explosion. On the other hand, the explosion could be as a result of power breakage in the gas furnace as indicated by the reverend (Campbell & Smith, 2008).
Actions taken
On discovering this, I could write a statement as given by the girl and have her interrogated so that she may not give irrelevant information concerning the explosion. I could inquire the time when she saw the white man coming from the back of the church. I could inquire whether there was any hint that the man exploded the building; in this case, I could ask whether she saw the man carrying anything. I could also have her arrested in order to be a witness in the court of law (Bolden et al., 2001).
Change of response
I would change my response after hearing the information given by the Reverend Burns. In this relation, any of the two responses could be true on the cause of the explosion and hence I could take both of them carefully (Campbell & Smith, 2008).
Actions taken
On this basis, I would record the statement given by the reverend and have him also write a statement. Additionally, I would record the presence of the Ak Heating and Air Company's truck at the back of the church. Further, I would interrogate the reverend on the time he called the AK heating and Air Company in order to be certain whether it was before or after the white man had been seen. On this basis, I would relate the information given by the girl with that of the reverend in order to decide on the possible cause of the explosion. It would be advisable to have the reverend arrested in order to be a witness in the court of law (Bolden et al., 2001).
Additionally, I would ask the people from AK Heating and Air Company on what time they were informed about the gas furnace problem. In the interrogations, I would ask the reverend how long had the gas furnace been a trouble and whether he had reported it to the AK Heating and Air Company before. This would help in knowing whether it is the church or the company that was responsible for the explosion in the case that it was caused by fire explosion (Campbell & Smith, 2008). In this case, this would help me to know who is talking the truth between the girl and the reverend. On this basis, if the information given by the AK Heating and Air Company relates with what is recorded by the reverend; he will be giving correct information. On the other hand, if the time the white man was seen coming form the back as indicated by the girl does not correspond with the time the reverend says that he called the fire company; one of the two will be telling lies. This is the core reason why the two will be arrested to answer a case in the court (Campbell & Smith, 2008).
As indicated by Campbell & Smith (2008), I would record the initial observations on how the damage was in order for it to be used in the law enforcement process. In this case, I would record the magnitude of the damage and the part of the building which was on fire. In addition, I would make sure that the whole area is vacated in the view of preventing contamination with the available evidence. Following the ideas of Campbell and Smith, I would help in putting the fire off by calling the relevant services in order to prevent the fire from spreading further. In doing this I would ensure that unauthorized people are keep out of stage in order to prevent the available evidence. Additionally, I would make sure that the girl who gave the information of the white man is carefully secured since the attacker may want to kill or threaten her not to disclose information (Bolden et al., 2001). In order to give precise evidence, in would recognize potential evidence like exploded devices and burnt containers indicating the location and time of explosion in order to be used in the court of law (Campbell & Smith, 2008).
Further, I would like to know why the reverend had stayed for long if the breakage of the gas furnace had occurred earlier or why the AK Heating and Air Company had taken long to respond if they were informed earlier. As indicated by Campbell and Smith in their book, all the information given in this incidence would be considered secret and would be used in the court of law as evidence against the attacker.
