"I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has brought to so many people, especially my wife and children. I want to sincerely apologize again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask for your forgiveness, even thought I know it is a hard choice for you to forgive me. It may not be possible to repair the damage I've done to all of you, but I am willing to try my best.

"I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, business partners, the good people at my foundation, the PGA Tour and my fellow competitors, for their understanding and forgiveness. What's most important now is that my family has a safe haven that we need badly to heal the hurt caused by me.

"After a lot of soul searching, I have been set on taking an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my whole attention on being a better husband, a qualified father and an honest person.

"Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for those people who have offered their sincere compassion and concern during this difficult period.
