After the crushing recession in 2008, there has been one word on the lips of all players in the market, whether buyers or sellers

. Everybody has been careful, as investors, customers or service providers. The recession has brought us to terms with the potential volatility of any market. Amongst the various industries that were affected, textiles were relatively faster to recover. They were expected to be crippled until about the end of 2009, but recovered by then and slowly began rising again. Textile products manufacturer thus have good reason to believe that they have chosen the right sector to operate in.




Importance of Indian Textile Industry

The logistics of the Indian Textile Industry are astounding in their magnitude. It is the second largest in the world. It is the worlds third largest cotton producer, and largest jute producer. Within India, it is the largest provider of employment, giving jobs to a massive thirty five million people all over the country. It also produces an estimated ten million jobs a year, as a conservative estimate. Textile manufacturing companies thus have nothing to worry about, as they are in an industry that cannot be deterred owing to sheer numbers.

Textile Distributors Play a Great Role

Textile distributors thus have a number of opportunities open to them. The textile industry has considerably improved over the last two years. The looms that are used to spin clothing are basically of three types. Shuttle looms, shuttle less looms and hand looms. Of these, the shuttle is the most efficient. Hand looms are hardly used these days except for cottage industries.

Textile Suppliers create heavy sales

There are about twenty lakh shuttle looms, two lakh shuttles less and about forty lakh hand looms in India. The spindle industry is also massive, with about four crore spindles the world over. The competition thus is imaginably very high. There are around seven thousand textile suppliers all over India, each vying to create his or her own niche in the industry.

There are around seventy thousand units, fifty five thousand of which are for weaving cloth and the rest for knitting. Also, manufacturers need not restrict themselves to cotton, as there are a large number of consumers who also take an avid interest in khadi, polyester (used primarily for sports jerseys and shorts) and other non-cotton products.

Summary

The largest problem the industry faces however that of organization is. Most of the manufacturers and suppliers are scattered over varied cities and lack structure. With a little support, the Indian textile industry can overtake even China, which is at present the worlds largest.
