Texting And Talking Bans For Semi Drivers?

Did you know that in January 2010 the government passed a no texting and driving law for semi truck drivers all over the US

? This ban had already applied to anyone who was in a motor vehicle before, but with this new rule it would be harder for semi drivers to be able to legally do this and get away with it.

More accidents are occuring daily with people texting and driving. Everyday when I am out on the interstate I always see at least 3 or more potential accidents where people are not paying attention and are texting and driving. Statistics state that 20% of all motor vehcile accidents are due to people either texting or talking on their phone and driving. With statistics like this, if will make you want to be extra cautious when riding beside of a vehicle, especially other semi's.

A lot of semi drivers may feel that being on their phone may help to keep them awake on an all night haul, but did you know there are more accidents with people being on the phone then from falling asleep. When you are sleepy, your reflexes are much slower than if you were not sleepy thus risking your life as well as anyone on the road's too. The best advice if you are sleepy and are able to, pull over and take a short nap, or of you are team driving switch out with your partner and take turns sleeping. As large as a semi is, if you were to be looking down texting and try to stop it, it takes a few extra seconds and you could wreck very easily! Also you need to be aware of smaller vehicles around you at all times!

If you do need to make a phone call, remember it is always much safer to pull off the road to make your call. It may take a few extra minutes to do this but could potentially save lives around you, as well as your own!
