Executive Summary
TH Petrochemical & Chemical includes the insights of the Thailand Petrochemical and Chemical industry as well as production and trade statistics. The petrochemical industry was valued at THB512,774 million (USD15,539 million) or accounted for 5.8% of the GDP in 2008. Petrochemical products are supplied to many industries in Thailand. Demand from the machinery industry is the largest, dominating approximately 46% of the total, followed by the manufactured goods (excluding chemical) industry with a 24% share. Currently there are about 100 chemical fertilizer producing firms in Thailand, of which only three have production capacity over one million tons per year, two with capacity to produce between 250,000 and 500,000 tons a year. Others are small producers.
In the report, we also provide the current market trends and industry outlook. On 29 September 2009, an injunction to halt work in 76 projects in the Map Ta Phut industrial park was issued by Thailands Central Administrative Court, after the projects failed to conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). After an appeal, 11 projects were allowed to proceed when the Supreme Administrative Court deemed them harmless to the environment and nearby communities.
In part 3 of the report, a ranking of the major players in the industry would be included. In Thailand in 2009, the five largest petrochemical companies in terms of revenue were PTT PCL, Thai Oil PCL, PTT Aromatics and Refining PCL, IRPC PCL, and PTT Chemical PCL.
