Generally speaking, the term "visa" is the shortened version of the latin phrase

"carta visa" which means that "the document has been seen." Without a visa, a person is prohibited from entering another country. There are different types of visa which are classified according to their specific purposes. Presently, there are six (6) major categories of Thailand visas. These are:

Transit

Tourist

Non-Immigrant


Diplomatic

Official

Courtesy

How to apply for a Thai Visa

A. Depending on your needs and purpose, you should clearly identify the type of visa that you need. It is best to consult a lawyer on this matter in order to avoid confusion.

B. Furnish all the necessary documents such as passports and working permits. In certain situations, financial statements are required. These documents must always be at hand to facilitate faster processing.

C. Submit your application for a Thailand visa to the Thai Embassy or to the Thai consulate in your home country.

Entities prohibited from entering Thailand

The Thai government restricts the entry of the following individuals:

A. Visitors that do not have valid passports or those who do not possess visas issued by the Royal Thai embassies

B. Foreigners who do not have sufficient means of supporting themselves

C. Unskilled workers or those who enter Thailand in violation of the Alien Work Permit Law

D. Psychologically or mentally ill individuals, along with those visitors who are infected by transferrable diseases that are included in the Ministerial Regulations' list

E. Individuals who did not go through smallpox vaccination and continuously refuse to have a vaccination and treatment as prescribed by the Immigration doctor

F. Visitors that have outstanding criminal records, except those whose misdeeds are characterized as petty offenses

G. Individuals that exhibit a behavior considered dangerous to the public, upset moral grounds and threaten the country's safety and security

H. Foreigners that do not possess money or bond as prescribed by Section 14 of the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979)

I. Individuals who fall under the category listed in Section 16 of the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979)

J. Individuals believed to be involved in prostitution, human trafficking and smuggling

K. Foreigners who have a history of deportation from Thailand and other countries, except when exempted
