Thank You Daddy

Several years ago I inadvertently started a family tradition; I created a family calendar

. My grandfather was 94 and my nephew had just been born. The calendar showed off the old and the young, the innocence of youth, the I should have known better of my 20s and of course my brother, sister, and parents. Under each picture was a clutch one liner taking friendly pot shots at my family, which only we would get.

Everyone loved their calendar, and although I had good intentions I didnt actually think there would be another edition. 11 months later I received an email from my sister Little brother, where is this years calendar? I was shocked! Here I was being bullied into making a calendar. I sent back a response and requested, demanded even, photos for that year. I took the photos, created a spreadsheet to track each persons inclusion in the calendar and published again (and was grateful for 7 day shipping!).

My family loved it! I found the perfect yearly present! As the editor in chief I exercised full control of what photos would go in and of course the witty one liners to accompany each photo. It may seem childish, but as the youngest child you have to enjoy moments like this.

Life moves, and with it comes change good, bad, and well change. I left America for Spain, and my grandfather passed away. I made another calendar, but this one was a bit closer to home. My family was smaller and I was further away than other before.

Life continues to move, my sister had another baby (baby Lilly!), my mother is retired, my brother is engaged, and I live even further, now in Sydney. The request for this years photos has been sent, and a reminder will go our shortly. I know once I do my yearly family chore, the family I care about will have the same photo each month sitting on their desk.
