Not all mens suits are created equal. Now, I'm not talking about the quality of the suit, that is a topic for another discussion. I'm talking about which type of suit is appropriate for wearing in the world of Business. A world that demands conformity above all else and individuality be banned. A world where the standard business uniform is the 2 Button Single Breasted Suit. If you start looking closer at any man wearing a business suit for work, you will quickly notice that the only suit you see adorned on anybody is a 2 Button Suit. It seems that somehow in the food chain, this basic designed suit has made it's way to the top and stays there year after year with minimal changes. Sure each year the lapels may get a micron wider or narrower but the suit is essentially unchanged. The buttons may drop a millimeter or rise a millimeter but to the naked eye the suit stays the same. Even the patterns of stripes are so subtle that you wonder why they change them at all. But like most things in the business world, appearance is not the thing you need for attention but the work results you provide.
2 Button suits for business usually come in either shades of Navy Blue or Charcoal Gray with any type of subtle striping you can imagine. From fine pin striping to the shadow stripe that is almost invisible. Which is just the way the Business world likes it. Don't even consider wearing a bold chalk stripe suit to work unless you're at the top of Corporation. Generally the 2 Button Suit will come with flat front slacks although sometimes they may come with pleats as well but for business, anything with style is a faux pas. Even 3 button suits for business masquerade around as a 2 button suit just by the way the lapel is pressed. The lapels get pressed in a manner that makes the bottom 2 buttons usable and the top button is essentially invisible and makes the suit look like a 2 button suit. Like anything else in the world of Business, your accessories must not stand out. I'm talking about your neck wear. It must be a standard width neck tie with a solid or subtle pattern. Nothing you can see from five blocks away should be worn at work. Remember, you're trying to get attention by your work performance, not your attire. Keep these little rules in mind if you're delving into the serious world of business and you should be just fine.
