2001 Ford Ranger trucks come with either a 2.3 liter four cylinder engine or a 4.0 liter V6. The smaller four cylinder is more than adequate for trucks with small bodies and only 2 wheel drive. For the best experience it is highly recommended that buyers look at purchasing a 4.0 liter V6 equipped model. All sport and Fx4 models come with the V6. The 4 cylinder engine comes with a standard 5 speed manual transmission and an optional 4 speed automatic. The V6 motors are only offered with a automatic transmission.
