The 2010 Car Industry - Small On Quantity, Big On Quality

.

Due to the global recession, new cars have been relatively sparse over the past few years. Production costs have increased and whilst manufacturers have tried to keep the retail costs of the vehicles as low as they can for the consumers, it is obvious that the recession has taken its toll on the new car buying industry.

The massive American car giant Chrysler, for example, reported a 36% drop in sales in 2009 from 2008 (which in turn saw a 30% drop in sales on 2007s figures), selling less than one million new cars in America for the first time in well over a decade.

Although the recession has officially ended, 2010 is still only seeing one or two new cars from each manufacturer enter the market.

With a lot of focus being on electric-hybrid concept cars (such as the Audi A1 E-Tron and the Lotus Evora 414E Hybrid), there have been some fantastic single fuel cars displayed that are expected to be on the market in the coming months.

Take the Lexus IS 350C F-Sport as an example. Built around the standard IS model that has been in Lexus dealers since 1998 (although it has had a facelift since its inception), the company announced in the first quarter of 2010 that they are to release the 350C F-Sport trim variant, which sees a whole host of additional extras.

Including a modern grille, low suspension and better braking, what makes the 350C F-Sport even more special is that only 100 are reported to enter Lexus dealers over the coming year.

BMW are also expected to release a new car this year, this time in the summer of 2010, which is one of the most anticipated and talked about cars of the year.

Known as the F10, it is part of the 5 series family of BMW cars and features a massive specification, from 7 different engine choices (ranging from a comfortably powerful 2.5 litre to a 4.4 litre V8), 6 or 8 speed transmission (the first of which is manual and the second being automatic), as well as masses of different interior choices, the F10 is without doubt one of BMWs most stunning 5 series cars to date.

New cars may not be particularly in abundance this year and it may seem that there has been more talk about concept cars and hybrid cars which are going to be released in the future than anything else. However, if you take the time to look at each manufacturer and the actual cars that they have produced for 2010, it becomes apparent that whilst there may not be a substantial amount of new vehicles, the ones that have been produced are of the highest quality and some of best to enter the market in recent years.
