For practical purposes, you will have to connect the CFL to an electric outlet. This implies that if you intend to use them some distance from the house, you will need to have sufficient electric wiring. Furthermore the wire should be rendered doubly water-proof and break-proof. Since LED lights run on solar batteries, they involve no operational costs at all. They get their power from sunlight that their solar panel absorbs during the daytime. The power is stored in their batteries, ready for use when it gets dark.

They are also durable and can last much longer than CFLs. It will usually be a matter of years before you need to replace your LED lights. The bulbs normally last longer than their solar panel and battery. So that even if they cost more than CFLs, you will eventually save on their replacements.

However, if you intend to use a lot of LED lights, you may have to spend an enormous amount for the bulbs at the start. Although, in the long run, you stand to recover your expenses, the cost of setting up your garden lighting will be higher.
