The sea lions, however, move about fairly easily on dry land
. With their broad hind flippers turned forward, they can walk or even gallop along at a good rate of speed. In the water sea lions propel themselves with their big front flippers, using the hind ones mainly for steering. Walruses swim in much the same way. But seals steer with their front flippers, pushing themselves through the water with their webbed hind limbs.
