The 6 Dog Rules For Their City Living

The 6 Dog Rules For Their City Living

1/ Approach other dogs with the proper respect. There is a different way to express curiosity about another dog passing than humans consider correct, and sometimes they don't understand. If they want us to be friendly we need to go through the proper rituals so their relentless 'stop it' won't foster the relationship at all. If we come across a dog with bad manners being aggressive and taunting us we should do what our mothers always told us, ignore them and they will eventually go away! This goes for some of their untrained humans as well.

2/ In a park or on the boulevard we need to insist that our humans pick up after us! Since we do not have opposable thumbs it's impossible for us to do it. Make sure your human understands this very important rule.

3/ Have you ever heard your mother say 'take that out of your mouth, you don't know where it's been!'? In dog terms this applies to eating things that you find at the park, on the street or heaven for bid you sniff out in a garbage can. In the summer you will smell these for miles but the contents are likely to make you very sick and your human will be hard to wake up in the middle of the night when this error in judgment 'passes' though.

4/ Pointless barking is not cool at all. Cars and those horrible motorcycles passing by can't even hear us when we are feverishly barking, yelping and trying to chase them. They can do harm to us if we get too close so it's best to just leave them be altogether.

5/ You must train your owner that leaving you in the path of harm is not appropriate. Being stranded, tied up to a bench or a parking meter while they run into a store is wrong. There are bad people out there, you could get loose or you could get a hold of some bad food or given bad food from one of those evil people who don't like dogs! A hot summer day you should not be left in a sealed up car in the sun either. Your human needs to find some shade, leave the windows down a bit so air can circulate, make sure you have water and keep this time as short as possible!

6/ Dog parks are great places to run with friends. If you take toys with you to the park you need to be willing to share them with your buddies. Understand that someone will take the role of pack leader in your posse. You need to fall into line and have some fun, don't challenge the leader. If you get into a fight your human won't take you back! Also make sure if you have business to take care of to move to the outside of the park by the fence. Again, your human will need to pick up what needs to be picked up. Make sure they have a pooper scooper or a bag. The easiest for portability are the little bags, and some humans will even go out of their way to find biodegradable ones to help save our planet.

The city life can be a chaotic life with busy streets, and busy parks so you have to be alert and aware of what's going on around you. Understand these rules and make sure you train your owner to follow them as well so you can be safe while enjoying time with them when out of your home or apartment and with your friends at the park.
