The 9105 Pearl 3g From Blackberry
In a bid to cross over and appeal to phone user in the mid price range
, Blackberry have introduced the 9105 Pearl 3G. Lacking the customary QWERTY keypad that we have come to expect from the manufacturer, this more compact unit still boasts a nice array of features.
A 624Mhz processor runs everything on the handset. Despite being what Blackberry class as an entry level handset, the phone seems very quick, and flicking between functions is seamless. Blackberrys version 5.0 operating system is used, meaning that the phone performs almost identically to the "Bold". With regards to battery life, this is one area where the handset does seem to stand out amongst its competitors. The 1150mAh lithium ion battery offers up to 5.5 hours of 3G talktime and a whopping 13 days in standby. A key factor on Blackberry handsets is the connectivity, allowing the user to be constantly kept up to date whilst on the move. EDGE and 3G connectivity are included as is WiFi, meaning even quicker browsing when in range of your own router or WiFi hotspot. The phone also features the Blackberry Messenger facility. Similar to the more well known Messenger programmes found on Pc's and Laptops, this allows you stay in touch with friends also on the system without the need of sending a SMS text or e mail. The phone will let you know when your message is delivered and read and is generally a quick and easy way to stay in touch.
The measurements of the Blackberry 9105 Pearl 3G are 107 x 49.7 x 13.2 mm, certainly more compact than other models in the range. This is thanks to the decision to not fit a QWERTY keypad on the unit, but rather a more traditional numeric keypad. You may think that this will hinder the composition of messages and e mails, however the phone relys upon predictive text to ensure that the process remains quick and easy. This T9 text input method is something that many of us have become familiar with over the years, and the manufacturers have improved upon it further with their own "SureType" technology, which means the phone remembers the words you use most frequently and offers you them first. Above the keypad you will find the display which shows a resolution of 360 x 400 pixels. The screen is not a touchscreen as it is not required, thanks to the optical trackpad in the centre of the unit. This trackpad makes navigation around the screen a breeze, and is an improvement of the trackball found on some of the older models.
The 9105 Pearl 3G is a smart attempt at an entry level phone from BlackBerry. The reduction in size will immediately appeal, as will the superb connectivity and excellent battery life.
