The Balangoda Apemen lived in Sri Lanka thousands of years ago, and had the physical characteristics of modern man, and may have even been taller than beings today. The Adobe of the Balangoda Apeman has been studied too, and visitors can do the same at the Batadomba lena caves, a few hours drive from Coloombo, the countrys capital city. It is an intriguing site to stop over at, and visitors will enjoy exploring the natural cave that was once the home of men. Skeletons found on site date back to approximately 28,000 BP and are some of the oldest unearthed in the entire Asian region. It is an amazing site to get a feel of what primitive life was, and imagine the struggle for survival these ancient figures endured.

Several artefacts used by these early men too have been unearthed here, including the tool kits that they used, which have amazed historians for being much ahead of their time. Evidence of what these men may have consumed too has been found here, including fragments of snail shells. Sea shells too have been found on site, which interestingly suggest that these men may have had links with those elsewhere in the island as well. The well preserved cave is situated atop a mountain and getting there is very much a part of the adventure. The countrys beautiful flora can be admired in the surroundings as visitors make their way to this ancient adobe. It is an interesting historical site to explore when travelling in Sri Lanka.
