The Advantages Of An Led Tv

LED TV is the latest thing to hit the consumer electronics market

, offering real change to the nature of televisions and providing a range of great new features for consumers.

LED screens now feature in a wide range of displays - from billboards to portable devices and tv's to industrial equipment, the screens are providing significant benefits. Their low power consumption and thin design are particularly suited to battery powered devices, allowing much more usage time with one charge.

The key difference between LCD and LED displays is the backlight structure. While an LCD uses a cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) as a light source, an LED uses light emitting diodes (LED's), which are more power efficient and more capable at delivering a realistic graphic display.

Despite their lower power consumption, LED displays also tend to be brighter and many have non-reflective screens, making them particularly good in rooms with plenty of direct sunlight as the image stands out better.

LED's have many advantages over other types on the market, the most apparent of which is their size. LED's are among the thinnest displays ever made, and significantly lighter, making them easier to mount and more attractive on walls as they don't protrude so far into the room.

The thinness of LED panels is due to the way the light bulbs are placed around the screen, either behind it, known as backlit, or around the edges, known as edge-lit. Edge-lit screens are the thinner of the two and as they contain fewer diodes, they tend to be less expensive. However, backlit versions can create deeper blacks using a technique known as 'local dimming', where bulbs are shut off, preventing unwanted light shining through.

LED displays also tend have a better range of colors and an improved color depth as well as better contrast ratios due to the red, green and yellow bulbs used to make up the light source

LED light bulbs also have a very long lifespan and are expected to last for more than 50,000 hours without degradation - that's 5 years of constant tv watching. They're also better for the environment as they don't contain mercury, making them easier to dispose of and more recyclable.

However, LED displays can suffer in the viewing angle area, and often lose colour and black levels when viewing at acute angles over 30 degrees. However, this issue is being addressed by the manufacturers and many are using in-plane switching panels, so keep an eye out for those when choosing your display.

It's not surprising that with all these advantages LED televisions tend to be more expensive than their LCD counterparts. However, given their lower power consumption, better picture and contrast and smaller physical size, it's widely agreed that they are the future for tv's and well worth the investment.
