Compatible ink cartridges are usually available at a fraction of the price that their brand name rivals demand. It is no exaggeration to say that to equip a basic cheap printer with brand name cartridges in both black and white and colour can cost more than the printer itself. That is how ludicrous and unsustainable the situation has become. It is rather akin to selling your car and buying a new one for no other reason than that it has a full tank of petrol.

The only real disadvantage to be found with depending upon compatible cartridges is that they sometimes cannot physically be used. The brand names manufacture some models of printer cartridges with complex technology and designs that cannot be copied, either for practical or for legal and copyright reasons. Therefore you may not always find a compatible cartridge for every model of printer.

Where you can, however, you need have no worries about quality. Brand name cartridges are effectively a con, sold to the customer at inflated prices that are held artificially high by mutual agreement between their ostensibly separate providers. They are the computer world"s equivalent of manufacturers of designer clothing who charge their customers dearly for the privilege of advertising their products on the front of their shirts and jumpers.
