Affiliate marketing is more than just hobby lovers who put up a few links online and make a ton of money. To be genuinely successful at selling someone else's products as an affiliate requires perseverance, discipline, patience and determination. Oh sure, you've got to do your homework to find the best products to sell and identify the right market to sell them to. But, without the personal qualities I mentioned, you are more likely to end up playing games on your computer than you are making money with it.

PERSEVERANCE

Steady, unrelenting action moving you toward your goal is perseverance. Without it your work will be start-stop, lurch forward and stumble back. It means you have set a goal and consistently work towards completing it.

DISCIPLINE

No, this is not about getting called down to the principal's office, or taking a beating because you failed to do what your mother told you to do. The kind of discipline I'm talking about is the kind that means you choose to spend an extra half hour finding just the right advertising source, rather than playing your favorite computer game. It means you will be found researching more about your target market, than sitting in front of the television enjoying your favorite show. Discipline is diligently following a specific routine, or regimen, to help you become better at what you do.

PATIENCE

Leo Tolstoy wrote, "The two most powerful warriors are patience and time." Your ability to remain calm, act in accordance with your business plan, and wait will be a far greater determinant of your success than anything else. With patience you know that there will be difficult times and good times. The ups and downs of that won't bother you. You're willing to wait. Coupled with perseverance, your patience will give you the ability to wait when success seems slow in arriving.

DETERMINATION

Genuine success is born of work and effort. You must be fixed in your focus to learn the best ways to market and advertise your affiliate products. You need to realize that sticking with the plan through the difficult times will help you enjoy the good times even more. As you stay the course, your mind will become more finely tuned to notice the subtle differences in words to use in your advertising, more acutely aware of your target market's interests and needs, as well as more genuinely interested in the work you are doing.

As you develop your own personal character, enhance your perseverance, discipline, patience and determination, you'll become more effective...and successful, as an affiliate marketer.
