The HTC Wildfire looks destined to follow in the footsteps of the manufacturers previous

models the Legend and the Desire and become a sure fire hit with phone fans. Based at a more low end price point, the handset still boasts great functionality normally reserved for a more high end phone.

The handset is one of the many phones currently running on the excellent Android operating system. Using the 2.1 version the phone also benefits from using the excellent Sense user interface. This brilliant menu system developed by HTC themselves not only boasts a great looking layout but also a very user friendly menus with some added touches which illustrate that much thought has gone into this design. The Friendstream function for example groups various details from assorted social networking sites together in one location. This not only makes status updates easy to read, but means the user need not log into separate applications to retrieve the desired information. Another handy addition is the Leap function which provides you with a handy overview of all of your home screens, allowing you to easily select the one you wish to view. Such features as these make Sense a great proposition, with the added bonus of flash support. Following the trend of most recent smart phones, widgets play a big part in using the Wildfire. A whole host are available for nearly every use imaginable. 512MB of internal memory is supplied with the phone with the option to upgrade this to 32GB by purchasing a micro SD card.

The design of the HTC Wildfire is eye catching and very stylish. The 106.7 x 60.4 x 12.9 mm dimensions are very compact, yet a good quality TFT screen measuring 3.2" has been fitted in. This capacitive touch screen can display a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, however an easy to use optical trackpad is also featured, aiding navigation on potentially tricky sites. Rather like the iPhone 4, the screen utilises multi touch technology, meaning features such as pinch and zoom are also incorporated. The handset sits nicely in the palm of the hand thanks to its more square design than many alternatives available, and at 115 grammes the Wildfire is certainly no heavyweight.

Without taking price into consideration the HTC Wildfire is a well specified and impressive handset. However when you consider the relatively low price the phone becomes even more appealing, making it an ideal first smart phone or an attractive upgrade to a now ageing earlier model.
